Veneers Q&A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain shells that fit over your teeth to improve their overall appearance and your self-confidence. Dr. Kim and her team offer custom-fit, noninvasive veneers that look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. Getting them is a simple procedure that can produce dramatic results.

What are veneers used for?

Veneers can improve the look of teeth that are:

  • Cracked
  • Chipped
  • Worn down
  • Too small
  • Gapped
  • Crooked
  • Decaying
  • Discolored
  • Weak

Veneers also enhance the structure and function of your teeth, add strength, and give you back your confidence.

Are veneers right for me?

If you have tooth imperfections and would like a more aesthetically pleasing smile, veneers might be the cosmetic solution for you. You must maintain good oral health by limiting extensive tooth decay or gum disease. However, Dr. Kim can treat these conditions prior to veneer placement.

He examines your mouth, reviews your dental history, and takes digital X-rays to make sure veneers are the right cosmetic dental treatment for you.

What happens during veneer placement?

When you arrive at Walnut Woods Dental for veneer placement, you relax in a comfortable dental chair. Dr. Kim removes a small amount of enamel from the front and side of your teeth to prepare them. She digitally scans your mouth, allowing a dental lab to fabricate custom-fit veneers.

When your custom-fit veneers are ready, Dr. Kim permanently bonds them to your teeth, where they can last up to 20 years or longer if you care for them properly. There’s no downtime after getting veneers so you can resume your regular routine right away.

How should I care for veneers?

Take care of your veneers to avoid damage and discoloration. Limit red wine, coffee, tea, and soda that can stain. Don’t chew hard objects, avoid biting your fingernails, and wear a nightguard if you grind your teeth while you sleep. To avoid dental problems and gum disease, brush your teeth twice daily and floss every day.

See Dr. Kim and her team every six months for routine cleanings and exams, and call the office if your veneers get damaged.

Don’t live with imperfect teeth when there are affordable cosmetic options. Book an appointment with Walnut Woods Dental by phone or online to find out if veneers are right for you.
